My journey from university student to entrepreneur, and the lessons learned while building businesses across technology, agriculture and commerce.
Entrepreneurship was never part of a perfectly designed master plan. My journey began with uncertainty, unexpected life events and a series of decisions that gradually shaped the direction of my future.
Growing up, I always believed in the importance of education and hard work. Like many young Nigerians, I had ambitious goals and aspirations for my future. My original dream was to study Medicine and Surgery and pursue a career in healthcare. I was fascinated by science and believed medicine would provide an opportunity to make meaningful contributions to society.
However, life does not always unfold according to our plans. In 2020, I experienced one of the most difficult periods of my life. It was the year I lost my father, a loss that brought emotional challenges and forced me to confront new realities at a relatively young age.
Ironically, it was also during that same year that I gained admission into the University of Benin. While I was grateful for the opportunity to continue my education, the circumstances surrounding that period required resilience, adaptability and a willingness to embrace a different path than the one I had originally imagined.
Rather than studying Medicine and Surgery, I enrolled in the Department of Microbiology and began pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree. Although the change was unexpected, I decided to fully commit myself to learning and personal development. Looking back, that decision taught me an important lesson: success is often determined not by the path you planned, but by how well you respond to the opportunities available to you.
Before beginning university studies, I understood the importance of practical skills. During the waiting period, I learned catering as a vocational trade. While some people viewed it simply as a skill, I viewed it as something more valuable—a lesson in service, discipline, quality control and customer satisfaction.
That experience introduced me to a mindset that would later become important in entrepreneurship. Whether serving food, selling products or providing services, the fundamental principle remains the same: create value for people and consistently exceed expectations.
As I progressed through university, my curiosity extended beyond academics. While I remained committed to my studies in Microbiology, I became increasingly interested in business, innovation and the practical realities of wealth creation.
I began exploring different opportunities to generate income, learn new skills and gain real-world experience. I believed that education should not be limited to the classroom. Some of the most valuable lessons come from solving problems, interacting with customers, managing resources and taking responsibility for outcomes.
This combination of scientific education and entrepreneurial curiosity gradually transformed my perspective. I started to see business not merely as a way to make money, but as a mechanism for solving problems, creating opportunities and generating long-term value.
Without realizing it at the time, these experiences were laying the foundation for the future creation of PrimeShieldHub and the broader entrepreneurial journey that would follow.
My years at the University of Benin were about far more than earning a degree. They became a period of experimentation, self-discovery and practical education. While studying Microbiology, I remained determined to find ways of building skills, generating income and creating opportunities beyond the traditional expectations of student life.
University education provided scientific knowledge, analytical thinking and discipline. However, I also understood that real-world success often requires additional capabilities such as communication, problem-solving, financial management and entrepreneurship.
As a result, I continuously looked for opportunities to learn through action. I explored different business ideas, observed how businesses operated and became increasingly interested in understanding how value is created within an economy.
These experiences gradually strengthened my entrepreneurial mindset. I began viewing challenges differently. Instead of asking why something was difficult, I started asking how it could be solved. Instead of focusing only on limitations, I became more interested in opportunities.
One of the most ambitious decisions I made during my university years involved acquiring a Toyota Corolla through a higher-purchase arrangement facilitated by LAPO. For many students, such a commitment would have seemed intimidating, but I viewed it as an opportunity to gain practical experience in business operations and asset management.
The vehicle was subsequently deployed for ride-hailing services through the Bolt platform while I continued pursuing my studies. Balancing academic responsibilities with the realities of operating a commercial vehicle required discipline, planning and resilience.
The experience exposed me to challenges that many entrepreneurs encounter. There were operational costs to manage, customer expectations to meet, maintenance issues to address and financial obligations that could not be ignored.
Unlike classroom exercises, these responsibilities carried real consequences. Every decision mattered. Every expense affected profitability. Every customer interaction influenced outcomes.
Looking back, the venture provided some of the most valuable business lessons I have ever received. It taught me the importance of accountability, cash-flow management, risk assessment and long-term thinking.
It also reinforced an important entrepreneurial principle: opportunities often require courage. Growth rarely occurs within the comfort zone. Progress is usually achieved by taking calculated risks, accepting responsibility and remaining committed despite uncertainty.
The various ventures I explored during university taught me lessons that would later become foundational to the growth of PrimeShieldHub.
First, I learned that business is fundamentally about solving problems. Customers are not interested in products alone; they are interested in solutions that improve their lives, save time or address specific needs.
Second, I learned that consistency often matters more than intensity. Sustainable progress comes from repeated actions performed well over time rather than occasional bursts of effort.
Third, I learned that failure and setbacks are not necessarily indicators of defeat. In many cases, they are simply part of the learning process. Every challenge provides information that can be used to make better decisions in the future.
Perhaps most importantly, I learned that entrepreneurship requires personal responsibility. Success cannot be delegated. The entrepreneur must accept ownership of both outcomes and decisions.
These lessons would later influence how I approached technology, business development, customer service and long-term strategic planning within PrimeShieldHub.
Following my university education, I became increasingly interested in technology and its ability to transform businesses, industries and entire economies. While my academic background was in Microbiology, I recognized that technology was becoming one of the most powerful tools for innovation, efficiency and value creation.
Rather than limiting myself to a single field, I adopted a mindset of continuous learning. I invested significant time studying software development, data analytics, cloud computing and modern digital business systems.
These disciplines expanded my perspective and introduced me to new ways of thinking about business. Technology was no longer simply a collection of tools; it became a framework for solving problems, improving processes and creating scalable solutions.
As I learned more about software systems, data and digital infrastructure, I became increasingly convinced that the future would belong to organizations capable of combining technology with practical business execution.
This realization became one of the most important turning points in my entrepreneurial journey.
PrimeShieldHub was founded from a simple belief: customers deserve access to authentic products, reliable service and trustworthy business relationships.
I recognized that technology retail presented an opportunity to serve customers while building a brand founded on professionalism, integrity and long-term thinking.
The initial focus was on consumer electronics, smartphones, accessories and technology products. However, my vision extended beyond retail alone. I wanted to build an organization capable of adapting, growing and expanding into new opportunities over time.
From the beginning, PrimeShieldHub was designed to be more than a store. It was envisioned as a platform for innovation, entrepreneurship and sustainable business growth.
Every customer interaction, every product sold and every business decision contributed to the gradual development of that vision.
As PrimeShieldHub continued to grow, new opportunities emerged. Rather than remaining confined to a single sector, I adopted a strategy of thoughtful diversification.
This led to the development of additional business activities beyond technology retail. PrimeShieldHub BuildMart was established to participate in the building materials sector, supporting customers involved in construction and infrastructure-related projects.
At the same time, I continued pursuing opportunities within agriculture. Through cassava farming operations spanning multiple hectares, I gained practical experience in agricultural investment, production and long-term asset development.
Although technology, building materials and agriculture appear different, they share a common characteristic: they address real needs within society.
This principle continues to guide every business decision I make. Businesses create lasting value when they solve meaningful problems and contribute positively to their communities.
Looking back, my journey from Microbiology to entrepreneurship may appear unconventional, but it has taught me an important lesson: success does not always follow a straight line.
The knowledge gained through education, the discipline developed through challenges and the experience acquired through business ventures have all contributed to the person I am today.
Every stage of the journey—from losing my father, to studying Microbiology, learning catering, operating a vehicle on Bolt, studying technology and building businesses—played an important role in shaping my perspective.
Each experience provided lessons that continue to influence how I lead, make decisions and approach opportunities.
The path may not have been predictable, but it has been valuable, and it continues to reinforce my belief in resilience, continuous learning and purposeful action.
If I were to share advice with young Nigerians considering entrepreneurship, I would offer several principles that have proven valuable throughout my own journey.
First, education matters—but it extends beyond the classroom. Degrees and certifications provide foundations, but practical skills, real-world experience and continuous self-education are equally important. The most successful people I know never stop learning.
Second, start where you are with what you have. Many aspiring entrepreneurs delay taking action because they believe they need more resources, more connections or more preparation. While planning is important, execution is even more critical. Progress often begins before conditions feel perfect.
Third, understand that failure is part of the process. Not every venture succeeds, but every experience teaches something valuable. The entrepreneurs who ultimately achieve success are those who refuse to give up after setbacks.
Fourth, invest in skills that compound over time. Technology literacy, communication ability, financial management and analytical thinking are all assets that increase in value the more you develop them.
Fifth, relationships matter. Business is ultimately about people. Building trust, maintaining integrity and treating customers, employees and partners fairly creates long-term value that cannot be replicated through strategy alone.
Finally, think long-term. The most sustainable businesses are built over years and decades, not weeks or months. Patience combined with consistent action produces results that shortcuts cannot deliver.
My journey from studying Microbiology to building businesses across technology, agriculture and commerce has been shaped by experiences that no textbook could fully capture. Every challenge, every setback and every small success has contributed to my growth as an entrepreneur and as a person.
As I continue building PrimeShieldHub and exploring new opportunities, my commitment remains unchanged: to create value, serve customers, contribute to economic development and demonstrate that young Nigerians can build sustainable enterprises through resilience, education and disciplined execution.
The story is still being written, and I remain focused on the work ahead.
